Episode 1269 - 29 April 2011

"If I had money I'd go to the U.K." Miranda said when Rona got home from work and conversation turned to what she'd been thinking about all day. Miranda saw the look Rona gave her. "No, not to see Will. I've forgotten about him." Rona didn't comment. "Honestly, I have!" Miranda insisted.

"So why would you go there?" Rona asked her.

"Because it's where I want to go" Miranda frowned. "There has to be a reason?"

"Where in the U.K.?"

"London, of course. But also Edinburgh. And I dunno, Norfolk? That's meant to be nice, right?"

"I wouldn't have a clue" Rona said.

"Where do you want to go?" Miranda asked her.

"I don't know" Rona said. She said it through clenched teeth, as if anxious; she could feel the restlessness swelling up inside her, just from having been thinking about it all day. "Just -" She shot her hand out into the air, straight. "Away." She let the hand fall into her lap. "I need to be somewhere different." She thought Miranda was being silent, so she added quickly: "Not to get away from you or anything. I just need a holiday."

"Oh yeah, I know. I get that" Miranda insisted. She'd only been quiet because she'd been thinking about the same thing. "Maybe we should all go up to Queensland" she joked.

"Queensland's okay for some" Rona replied. She furrowed her brow. "When's Eric getting back, anyway?"

"I dunno" Miranda shrugged. "Tomorrow. Next week. I'm not his keeper."

"But you're his friend."

"I don't know that he has friends, really."

Rona didn't say anything. She was thinking: I have too many friends in this city, I can't tear myself away from them; though in fact even as she thought it she was aware that that wasn't really the problem at all.
