"Do you have any chairs in
your room?" asked Hannah warily, looking up the stairway of
the house and holding a bottle of wine in her hand.
"Well the room's still the
same size that it's always been, so no" replied Rona, a little
baffled.
"In that case" said Hannah,
"now that I know what's been going on in there I'm not so sure
I want to sit on your bed. How about we sit out the front?"
"It's a bit sunny."
"It's summer."
"Okay." Rona went into
the kitchen of her house, where she grabbed two wine-glasses and
her front-door key. She and Hannah made their way to the front of
the house. "Don't forget the bottle-opener!" shouted Hannah
from the doorway.
They settled into the sofa out the
front of the house. "What do we have?" asked Rona.
"Riesling" replied Hannah.
"From New Zealand."
"I don't think I've ever had
a wine from New Zealand!" said Rona, grinning with wonder.
"Then you're in for a treat.
Hopefully." Hannah opened the bottle with a 'pop' and set it
on the ground to breathe for a couple of minutes, and leaned back
in the sofa, gazing at the sky.
"What are you looking for?"
asked Rona jokingly.
"Flying cars" replied
Hannah with a smile. "It's 2006, isn't it? They should be invented
by now."
"Even if we had them"
replied Rona, "do you really think they'd let Melbourne drivers
into the sky?"
"Why not? They let them on
the roads."
"Good point." Rona exhaled
extravagantly and settled back into the sofa, paralleling Hannah
in her posture. "That wine ready to drink yet?" she asked.
"Give it a mo" said Hannah.
"God, you're worse than Matt
with his tea" Rona laughed lazily, and shut her eyes.
Hannah put her sunglasses on, and
shut her eyes as well. "Sshh" she said, "it's a beautiful
day. Let me enjoy the sunshine."
