Once she'd been there for a while
and had got thoroughly bored, Hannah managed to extricate herself
from Janine's house under the pretence of having to go to work.
Janine smiled in a pouty, sulky manner, and then commented that
maybe she'd drop in on Hannah at work later in the day. Hannah hoped
that she wouldn't, not that she said so: she wasn't really going
to work. At least, not yet.
As soon as she was out of earshot
of Janine's house she opened her mobile and called Rona.
"Hannah!"
"Rona, mate, gorgeous, I'm
so sorry about blowing you off last week. How can I make it up to
you?"
"You could take me out for
a coffee."
"Done and done. You
free now?"
"Now? Yeah!"
"You at your place?"
"Uh-huh."
"Hang tight, I'll head right
over."
An hour later Hannah knocked on
Rona's door. "'I'll be right over'?" Rona said with a
raised eyebrow.
"Shit, sorry mate, I had to
come through the city. From St. Kilda."
"What the hell were you doing
in St. Kilda?"
"I was at Janine's house."
"Oh Hannah, you're not going
out with a south of the river girl!"
"I know, I know. I hope you
haven't been waiting for me."
Rona looked around. "Well it's
not like I have anything else to do!"
"Aww" Hannah cooed in
sympathy, and wrapped Rona in a warm embrace. Rona sniffed the sleeve
of Hannah's coat.
"Is that weed?"
Hannah released Rona and sniffed
the coat too, then wedged a hand into her right pocket. She pulled
out a tiny bag of marijuana. "Bugger me, I thought I'd used
all that up." She looked at Rona inquiringly.
"Hannah, it's not even lunch
time!" Rona exclaimed in disbelief. "Maybe later"
she added after a prolonged silence from Hannah. "Now, where
are you taking me? Better be somewhere nice, you've got a lot to
make up for!"
