The first time Matt shouted to get Rona's attention he was drowned out by the first chords of the support band starting their set. The second time he called out, louder, it was during a sudden and unexpected quiet section in the song the band was playing, when all the instruments dropped out except for a muffled drum beat, and the singer leant in close to the microphone . . .

"Rona!"

Matt felt like half the crowd turned to look at him, and that the band was glaring, though whether anyone actually was directing their attention to him or not he couldn't tell because he didn't dare look. At least Rona had heard him, and seen him, and now came towards him, trailing Eric, Steve, and Mal behind her like ducklings looking for a pond.
They didn't have to push through the crowd, it wasn't busy enough for that, but they had to pick a route across the floor of the band-room: they couldn't have done it with their eyes shut, which Rona supposed was some kind of a measure of crowd density. By the time they reached the others Matt was bright red. He laughed self-consciously and buried his face in Rona's shoulder. "God, I should just go now" he said. He looked up at Mal and Eric and Steve. "I promise, I won't do anything like that during your set."

"Just clap extra hard" Hannah suggested.

"Hell no, that'll just bring attention to yourself" Eric retorted. "Seriously, even with that spotlight in your eyes up there -" Eric gestured towards the stage - "you can hear who the crazy-keen ones are. We call 'em the stalkers."

"Sssh" someone nearby said, nodding towards the band on stage.

"Uh-oh, we've been told!" Eric grinned conspiratorially at Hannah.

"Hey yeah, so guys" Rona said quietly. They all leaned closer to her, which just made her talk even more quietly. She felt them all looking at her expectantly. "Guys, nothing, I'm just gonna do introductions."

"Oh, right."

She did the rounds, telling everyone who everyone else was. She couldn't remember if Eric, Steve and Mal had met Matt or not, so she introduced him, too.
