Rona and Sacha got to the bar; or rather, they got to the crowd around the bar. "Jesus, it's a bit crammed 'round here!" said Sacha.

"Yeah, well you heard the band" joked Rona. "No wonder everyone's reaching for a drink." Rona stood on her tip-toes to try and see over the top of the crowd. "Man, I hate being short sometimes" she said.

"Yeah, but you look tough. What with the buzz-cut and all. Just push through, people'll think you mean business."

"Hey!"

"I mean that in a good way" pointed out Sacha, looking at Rona over the rim of her glasses.

"Yeah, well . . ." Rona ran her hand over her hair. "It's not as short as it used to be. I did that shave for cancer thing last year, you know? I kinda like it, though."

"It suits you."

Rona looked up at Sacha. "You ever tried contacts?"

"Yeah, my eyes got all red and puffy."

"Sounds nasty!"

Sacha shrugged. "My sister reckons the glasses suit me anyway."

"Sister?"

"Yeah, coupla years younger. Back home in Canberra."

"Cool."

They finally made it to the bar, and bought a couple of beers. They were turning to go when Sacha noticed a young woman sitting at the far end of the bar. She had dark brown hair, chin-length and tucked behind her ears. Her eyes were brown as well, and she was wearing an old cream-coloured coat with fake fur trims and a skirt which showed her black-stockinged knees when she crossed her legs. She was wearing red lipstick and ordering shots from the bar and grinning wickedly at the barmaid. She was sitting by herself. Sacha only looked at her for a moment and was about to walk back across the club to Alain and Mal when Rona yelped out behind her:

"Hannah!" Sacha turned around and saw Rona striding, arms open, towards the woman at the bar. "Hannah, baby!"

"Hiya, you little pocket rocket!" Hannah greeted Rona.

"How long've you been here?"

"Long enough to hear Mal play 'The Song'. Figured you must be around here somewhere."

"And you didn't come and find me?" asked Rona in a tone of mock-hurt.

"Baby, I had my place at the bar and I wasn't giving it up that easy!"
