Having seen the statue, Miranda and Eric decided to go to Degraves Street for a cup of coffee. The lunchtime rush was well over by now so there were tables available. "I used to work in one of these cafés" Miranda said. "It was horrible, the crowds are insane here sometimes."

"Which café?" Eric asked.

Miranda shook her head dismissively. "It shut down ages ago. Health check."

"Oh."

"You wouldn't believe the shit some people try to get away with."

"Let's talk about something else!" Eric suggested as he eyed with increasing suspicion the display of cakes in the window of the café they'd chosen.

"Okay" Miranda said. She was relieved: she didn't want to talk about unpleasant memories from her past, anyway. "Let's talk about you" she said. "What's next?"

"'Next'?" Eric repeated. "You'll have to give me more context."

"The band" Miranda smiled. "Now that your single's come out. What's next?"

"I guess we need to plug the hell out of it" Eric said. He didn't sound enthusiastic.

"Is that it, though?" Miranda asked. "Is that all?"

"I dunno. Let's talk about something else."

"Like what?" Miranda asked. Just then a waiter appeared at their table to hand them some menus. Miranda thought he was pretty cute and when he was gone she nodded towards him and raised a querying eyebrow and winked at Eric. Eric blushed, and Miranda thought it was the cutest thing.
