"How much noise do you think we can make?" Eric asked as he self-consciously tuned his drums. "I mean -" he looked around the room - "this place doesn't look too well sound-proofed. And it's not a big building. Do you think they can hear us in the real studio?"

"Just because the woman said to make yourself at home" Steve said, "doesn't mean you have to start worrying about upsetting the neighbours."

"I just mean -" but Eric was cut off as the door to the room opened. He silenced his drums just in case and looked towards the door.

A guy walked in, aged somewhere in his thirties, and he smiled excitedly when he saw the three bandmates. "You guys must be the TerrorFractals!" he said. "Mimi told me you were here. It's so great to have you here! Hi, I'm Jamie." He strode forward and held out his hand to Mal, who was the nearest.

"Hi, man" Steve said, and he walked over and stuck his hand out too. "Big fan. Really love the show." Even Mal knew better than to point out that none of them ever listened to Triple-F.

"Oh, man. Stop it" Jamie said, and blushed slightly. "I was so thrilled when Alain rang me up and told me you guys wanted to come in. I've been playing your song ever since the 8-Point Records compilation came out. I've been trying to get in touch with you, but 8-Point couldn't help me. Gotta say, I was surprised that they didn't have you guys signed up and they still put your song on their C.D. That's a bit cheeky of 'em!"

"Yeah, well, you know" Eric said, stepping forward himself now. "Anything to get our music out there, really."

"Absolutely, absolutely!" Jamie turned to him and shook his hand. "And I'm always keeping my ear out for new music. Have you guys been on the scene long?"

"We've been gigging for a few years now" Eric said.

"Wow, really." Jamie nodded, absorbing each word keenly. "God, I've gotta get out there more. It's hard, you know, my wife and I have a little girl, doesn't leave us lots of spare time . . ."

"Yeah, I can imagine" Eric replied. He couldn't, actually: he couldn't imagine a radio D.J. having a young family, for some reason it just didn't make sense.

"Anyway!" Jamie exclaimed. "Are you guys all set up here? Great! Looks good. Interview's in fifteen minutes. Okay? Okay!" And he sat down on a chair that was in the corner of the room. "Everything's ready to go in the studio" he said. "I'm just gonna sit here and watch for a few minutes. Is that cool?"
